AI providers
Configure transcription and formatting AI providers for Epilude.
Overview
Epilude uses external AI services for speech transcription and text formatting. You need to configure at least one provider to start using dictation.
Supported providers
Deepgram (Transcription)
Fast, real-time speech-to-text with excellent accuracy.
- Used for: Live transcription during dictation
- Get an API key: deepgram.com
- Pricing: Pay-per-use with a free tier
OpenAI (Transcription + Formatting)
Whisper for transcription and GPT for text formatting.
- Used for: Transcription (Whisper), Auto-Edits formatting
- Get an API key: platform.openai.com
- Pricing: Pay-per-use
Anthropic (Formatting)
Claude for high-quality text formatting and Auto-Edits.
- Used for: Auto-Edits formatting
- Get an API key: console.anthropic.com
- Pricing: Pay-per-use
Adding an API key
- Open Epilude → Settings → AI Providers
- Click the provider you want to configure
- Paste your API key
- Click Save
Secure storage
API keys are stored in your Mac's Keychain, not in plain text. They never leave your device except to authenticate with the provider.
Recommended setup
For the best experience, we recommend:

| Auto-Edits | Anthropic (highest quality formatting) |
Troubleshooting
- "Invalid API key" — Double-check your key has no extra spaces
- "Rate limited" — You've hit your provider's usage limit; check your plan
- No response — Verify your internet connection and that the provider's status page shows no outages
